PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear friends,
There was once a cave that lived underground, as most cave do. Since it spent its entire life in darkness, and never seen any light. One day, a voice said to the cave, “Come up into the light, come and enjoy the bright light”. The cave replied, “I do not know what you mean by light. All I have ever known is darkness”. “Come and see for yourself,” said the voice. The cave mustered up enough audacity and climbed up slowly from the depths of the earth. Suddenly it reached the top and was surrounded by magnificent light, which the cave had never seen in its life. “This is beautiful, “said the cave. After enjoying the light for a while, the cave said now it is your turn to come with me and see the darkness”. What is darkness?” questioned the light. The cave answered, “Come and see for yourself”. So, the light decided to visit the cave’s home. As the light entered the cave, it said, “Now show me your darkness”. But with the light there, no darkness to be found. Where there is light, there no darkness.
Education is an opportunity and a door to enter into true light. Education is not storing of information into our memory but rather skillful chiseling out the unique character in every individual and learning to respect precious human life and dignity of being human. If we do not civilize and refine our attitude in society the fundamental purpose of education is miserably defeated.
If we pan our eyes to the current scenario of society in which we live, we find atrocities to human life, conscious irresponsibility to duty, passionate mishandle of social media etc. appear to delude present generation.
It is time to give a wake –up call. The student fraternity at large shall make a pledge to hold fast to traditional values and human dignity so as to dispel the darkness of individual and society through right education. Let our pilgrimage here on earth be a journey from untruthfulness to truthfulness, from darkness to light.
It is our hope that you will capture the spirit of St Vincent De Paul as you go through our academic curriculum, syllabus, in house and open house activities. Our students and staff are always available to tell you about this unique spirit and their experience at De Paul.
As our mission statement proclaims, “Together we create an environment filled with academic success, respect, integrity and joy to change the world.”
All of us in the De Paul community join in welcoming you to our school and we hope that you will consider being part of our Depaulian family.
Sincerely,
Fr Joseph Kochuparambil, CM.
